1959 Cooke City, MT | 15'x15' Shaded Historic USGS Map

Cooke City, MT, once a bustling mining town, is now a gateway town to Yellowstone and a winter playground for snowmobilers, skiers and ice climbers. Cooke is a small, high elevation town with Yellowstone National Park to the South and West and the Beartooth Plateau to the North. This city boasts the highest annual average snow accumulation in Montana!

This map shows the 1959 landscape of Cooke City and the Beartooth Plateau to the north. Included in the map is Montana's state high point - Granite Peak, considered to be one of the most challenging state high points to summit. 

We used recent digital elevation data combined with modern rendering techniques to enhance this hand selected, vintage USGS map. Even though the map is 2 dimensional, the techniques applied make it appear to pop off the page.

Please Note: Reading the text on the map can sometimes be difficult, primarily because of the historic map's small font size and age. In areas where relief shading obscure text, it can become illegible. To enhance readability, we recommend ordering a larger map size, although the text may still be obscured in darker areas.
